About Me!

My name is Meg Maples and I've been painting since 2004. I was introduced to painting miniatures as well as Dungeons and Dragons
when I was a Sophomore in college. My boyfriend at the time had been a D&Der
since first edition and had been painting his minis for his games as well. When
we started dating I took an interest in this hobby of his and I took to the
painting. He then took me on my first trip to the game store, Game Depot in
Tempe, AZ and I was introduced to Reaper minis!
Several trips later I noticed the painted minis in the display case and was
awestruck by them. I wanted to learn how to make them look so pretty! All I had
learned at that point was prepping them, priming black and then drybrushing
color. That was clearly not the way to go for cool lookin' minis! I started
looking at minis online and posting to Reaper's forums. If it weren't for the
people on Reaper Forums I wouldn't be where I am today.
I met the Sue Crew that organizes painting events for Gen Con and I volunteered
at Gen Con So Cal 2005. I was taught many new things, got a lot of valuable
feedback and made some really great friends along the way. I've tried going to a
decent number of conventions since then in order to really improve my painting.
At Gen Con Indy 2006 I helped teach a painting class, Gen Con So Cal I taught
beginning painting and I'm hoping to teach at Reaper Con 2008!
I am now living in Denton, Texas near Reaper HQ. I got my first freelance job
from them Spring 2007. I am no longer working for nor promoting Reaper
Miniatures. I am open to freelance work with other companies and have done work
for Crunch-Waffle miniatures.
I just moonlight as a painter. My day job is being an Academic Counselor for
University of Phoenix at their Irving campus. Prior to moving here I was an
Academic Counselor for University of Phoenix's Axia College (junior college)
specifically working with military students. I have been with University of
Phoenix for a year and a half and I love it! In the past year I've completed a
Master of Information Systems with University of Phoenix. My bachelor's is in
Anthropology from Arizona State University. I do plan to return to Anthropology
but I need some time to play and enjoy working life before committing to another
7 years of school.
